Returning to the East: Iran’s Foreign Policy after US Withdrawal from the JCPOA and Distrust in Europe
Given the fact that the totality of the West – the United States plus Europe – has been adopting a confrontational position against the Islamic Revolution in Iran since the outset and the two sides’ large-scale approaches to international system have been at loggerheads, the Islamic Republic of Iran has been trying since its beginning to expand relations with the East, especially China and Russia. In doing this, it has been trying to fill the void, which was created after the West was phased out of Iran’s economy and politics, through cooperation with these states, which are one way or another in a common anti-West front with Iran.

مسئله افکار عمومی و تأثیر آن بر سیاستها و مواضع دولتهای مختلف در دهههای اخیر اهمیت دوچندانی یافته است. بهطوریکه امروزه کمتر سیاستمداری میتواند به حمایت یا مخالفت افکار عمومی با سیاستها و برنامههای دولت خود بیتوجهی کند. زیرا در عصر حاضر نظر به گسترش نظامهای دموکراتیک و انتخابی، سیاستمداران به رأی و حمایت مردم نیاز دارند. دونالد ترامپ رئیسجمهور آمریکا به نظر میرسد که بهنوعی استثنائی بر این قاعده باشد؛ زیرا غالب برنامهها و سیاستهای وی با مخالفت مردم آمریکا مواجه بوده اما بااینحال، او تغییر چندانی در اولویت-های خود ایجاد نکرده است.
